Paper Guide

What paper should you choose?

Paper changes how a photograph sits in light. Most current collector works are built around a calm matte cotton paper, but this guide explains the difference between matte and baryta surfaces if you are comparing finishes or framing locally.

Most versatile

Matte · Hahnemühle Photo Rag

The safest and most versatile option. Its smooth anti-reflective surface works especially well in everyday interiors, brighter rooms, and spaces where glare would otherwise compete with the image.

For controlled light

Pearl · Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta

A higher-gloss, higher-contrast surface with stronger color depth and definition. It can work beautifully for darker night images when the room lighting is controlled.

Quick Advice

A simple way to decide

Choose matte if

You want the calmest and easiest option for most homes, studios, and collector walls. Matte is especially useful where reflections would otherwise interrupt the photograph.

Choose baryta if

You want more punch, gloss, and apparent depth, particularly for darker atmospheric work, and you know the display space has controlled lighting.
